The reference ranges for your blood test aren't based on optimal health. They're built to rule out disease.

Standard pathology reference ranges are set from population averages. They cut out the extremes and call everything in the middle 'within range.' That includes people who are exhausted, inflamed, and years into a problem nobody's named yet.

Nothing gets flagged until you fall outside that range. But if you look back at previous results, the trend has often been moving in the wrong direction for years — sometimes decades. It's quite illogical not to take action when the wheels are already starting to come loose.

The problem is the number your GP flags and the number that actually reflects optimal control aren't the same.
